Today we at the Aber Valley Heritage remember the men and boys lost in the 1901 Universal Colliery disaster in Senghenydd, one of the many tragedies that shaped the history of the South Wales coalfield.
Their lives, courage, and sacrifice remain an important part of the heritage of the Aber Valley and our mining communities. We also remember the families and rescuers whose lives were changed forever by this devastating event.
As we reflect on this day, we honour not only those who perished, but the resilience and strength of the community that endured unimaginable loss.
