On Saturday 18th July, we were delighted to have a designated filming slot for Antiques Roadshow at Caerphilly Castle.

For the programme, we took along the original hooter that sounded at 8:10am on 14th October 1913, following the tragic mining disaster at the Universal Colliery, Senghenydd which remains the worst mining accident in British history. This poignant and significant artefact was thankfully saved from being scrapped by William Michael Gallagher.

It was a privilege to share the hooter’s remarkable story with Antiques Roadshow expert Paul Atterbury, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that our feature makes the final programme!

The episode is due to be broadcast in October, so watch this space for more details.
