Aber Valley Heritage has recently obtained letters written by William Bate who was serving in France and had lived at 23 Caerphilly Road, Senghenydd to his best friend Bert Baldwin, 7 Ilan Road, Abertridwr. Bert’s family kindly let us copy them. We then, for ease of reference we also typed up each letter for visitors to the Museum to read. They are very sad! He writes of his hopes for the future as well as his concerns for his family and friends, their jobs and access to rations. He died of wounds on 18th October 1918 age 19 just a few weeks before the end of the War! The file is now ready for visitors to read.
If you have a photo of a relative, preferably in uniform, who served in any of the conflicts from the Boer War to the present we would very much like to place it on our Display Board here in the Museum.
We have the details of all the men from Abertridwr and Senghenydd who were killed in WW1, where they are buried or the Memorial where they are remembered.
Please call in and see our small exhibition to the memory of the men and women of the Aber Valley who have served their country.
